Diskit Monastery:
Diskit Monastery is the oldest and the largest Buddhist Monastery in Nubra Valley, it stands tall at an altitude of 10,300 ft (3139 meters) in the cold desert of Ladakh. It was founded in the 14th century by Changzem Tserab Zangpo, a disciple of Tsong Khapa. This monastery belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetian Buddhism. Diskit has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ladakh. This Buddha Statue faces the Shyok River toward Pakistan. It is stated that the statue signifies three intrinsic ideas—the protection of Diskit Village, the prevention of further war with Pakistan, and the promotion of World peace.
Best time to visit Diskit:
The best time to visit Diskit Monastery is during the summer months of May to September. Because in these months the weather remains pleasant. The temperature ranges from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. In these months the roads to Nubra Valley are accessible.
As we know that Nubra Valley is high altitude some visitors might face altitude sickness. The infrastructure of Nubra Valley can be minimal compared to other tourist places. One drawback is that in winter the weather of the valley can be unpredictable with extreme weather conditions and snow on the roads can even cause blockage.
